Tomatoes are not only an excellent part of a diet for healthy skin, but they are also great when used topically. Simply rubbing fresh tomato on your face is an effective way to cleanse pores of dirt, bacteria and dead skin cells. Like many other fruits such as grapes and strawberries, they are a source of alpha-hydroxy acids, which exfoliate the skin. Tomatoes also supply a dose of nutrient antioxidants for the skin, which help to protect cells from free radical damage. A tomato facial is really useful for skin renewal with vitamin A to promote the formation of new skin tissue and vitamin C for new collagen production.
Try one of the following tomato face masks on your skin. They are all excellent for giving your skin that extra nourishing care. Use at least once a week for a deep pore cleansing, renewing treatment.
Tomato and Milk Mask for Acne Prone Skin
To make a homemade tomato face mask for reducing acne, combine the natural cleansing properties of tomatoes and milk. Both contain natural acids to cleanse pores as well as nutrients to promote skin healing. Milk is also a hydrating, softening ingredient.
Blend a fresh tomato and enough milk powder to make a paste. Apply to clean skin. Leave on for ten to fifteen minutes before rinsing off with cool water. Pat dry and moisturize.
Homemade Facial for Sensitive Skin with Tomato, Cucumber and Honey
Another excellent combination to nourish and cleanse the skin is tomato, cucumber and honey. In addition to the nutrient-rich tomato, this homemade facial combines the organic acids in fresh cucumbers, which cool the skin and tighten pores, with the anti-bacterial and moisturizing properties of honey. This is a potent tomato facial that is also gentle enough for sensitive skin.
To make, blend half of a fresh tomato, two inches of a fresh cucumber and two tablespoons of honey. Smear onto face and neck and relax for fifteen minutes before rinsing off. If you have extra, save this face mask in the refrigerator for a repeat treatment the following day.
Softening Tomato and Avocado Facial
Mash together half of a ripened avocado with half of a fresh tomato and one teaspoon of jojoba or sweet almond oil. You can mash with a fork or mix in the blender. Apply to a clean face and leave on for fifteen minutes.
Like tomato, avocado is a great source of antioxidants for the skin. It also supplies fatty acids to deeply moisturize and nourish. This is an ideal face mask not only for softening the skin, but also for preventing premature wrinkling.
